Biscayne Bay is considered one of the best fishing locations in South Florida. Targeted species include Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, Snook, Shark, Snapper and Grouper.
Most trips start on Key Biscayne from the boat ramp at Crandon Marina. Some of the best tarpon, permit and bonefish fishing is just minutes from the marina making Key Biscayne the prime location. Most days you will travel through historic Stiltsville on your way down to fish in Biscayne National Park. While in the National Park you will fish the grass flats around Soldier Key, Boca Chita, Sands and Elliott Key. The gin clear water and shallow grass flats are identical to those found in the Florida Keys just to the south of Biscayne National Park.
Captain Carl specializes in tarpon fishing and offers both day and evening trips from Haulover Inlet in north Miami down to Key Biscayne including Government Cut. There are opportunities for sight fishing using both spinning and fly rods. Fly fishing for the experienced angler is exceptional mainly in May and June when the tarpon begin their annual migration. However, tarpon fishing remains consistent all year with the best time to target large tarpon being from December through June.
Bonefish fishing in Biscayne Bay has remained one of the most consistent fisheries in the Florida Keys. Bonefish are targeted all year and due to the opportunities for sight fishing Biscayne Bay is known as a prime fly fishing destination.
Permit fishing is best from March through November and into December depending on temperatures. While using live crabs for bait with spinning tackle is the absolute best way to catch them, they can also be caught on fly. Captain Carl is one of the top fly fishing guides in Biscayne Bay.
